some people wear their suit of golden armor in a rolling fortress made of glass and steel but when that chaos engine shudders breathes its last and dies they curse into the useless steering wheel for the road is long and the night is dark and the stars cannot be found from beyond those hills i can see a spark see the sun rising from the ground we slay the clock by riding iron horses to insulate from others private hell but when the fallen courser is crying coolant tears we weep our own electrolyte as well for the road is long and the night is dark on the highway that leads back to you from beyond those hills i can see the spark see the sun rising ever true the power of the cockpit is our castle a fire powered beast at beck and call a kingdom in the driver's seat but when that fire's gone the monarchs are no longer standing tall for the road is long and the night is dark and there are no signs to point the way from beyond those hills i can see a spark see the sun rise to bring the day

you called the situation what it wasn't you claimed the crowd thinks something that it doesn't although i understand the way you feel i'll bend i'll compromise but i won't kneel you tell me not to speak the words i ought to you say that art is something i should not do... here your fear is based on something that's not real i'll bend i'll compromise but i won't kneel a concept one to be held in derision to guard the ears of those who will not listen to this i cannot choose to put my seal i'll bend i'll compromise but i won't kneel i won't kneel i won't kneel

Powers 05:20
oh powers can't you see the world you built is falling down oh mothers can't you feel the hatred that's growing all around oh brothers unless you act i know our time it isn't long oh children you surely know the lies that your parents taught were wrong and love love the only way acceptance of the other take him as a brother be to him a mother and bring a brighter day oh fathers you must now learn to renovate the pathways where we fell oh leaders i hope you know the names of the things we shouldn't sell oh sisters what you now see are sorrows which cannot be undone oh shepherds now you must act to bring the scattered army into one and love love the only way acceptance of the other take him as a brother be to him a mother and bring a brighter day oh chosen why do you sleep when there are those who need a helping hand oh heroes i see you weep for the hardship all through this barren land oh children pick up your tools and help us build the highway out of here oh outcast come swell the ranks the time of your deliverance is near and love love the only way acceptance of the other take him as a brother be to him a mother and bring a brighter day

Carrion Dogs 03:06
we run our pack of carrion dogs the game is set we greet the day await the cry of dying deer as arrow spent brings down the prey the dying gasp of shattered hearts to our long faces smiles bring as sustenance for us is found in death to every living thing the hearth and home that once were warm lie shuttered empty barren still we crawl through ruined love that was to draw within and drink our fill and by the dying breath we live and from the living breath we flee to be one of your carrion dogs my friend is not the life for me another place i'll seek to find as one that builds or one that heals forget your pack of carrion dogs although i'm sure i'll be your meal

Without You 04:43
without you my paths are no longer straight and i am no longer true without you i'm free from the hands of fate and i don't know what else to do and never was it said to use your heart and not your head but by you i was undone and always it's been told that in love you must be bold but by you i was unmade i laid down my guard it wasn't really heard and i learned i laid down my defense it didn't make much sense and i burned without you my paths are no longer straight and i am no longer true without you i'm free from the hands of fate and i don't know what else to do and never should you give the very thing you need to live but for you perhaps i would and forever it's been known that man shouldn't be alone but if it's you maybe i should i did what i did mostly out of some kind of generosity i was a fool i was a fool i gave what I gave while hoping for some kind of reciprocity i was a tool i was a tool i was a tool i was a tool without you my paths are no longer straight and i am no longer true without you i'm free from the hands of fate and i don't know what else to do and i don't know what else to do and i don't know what else to do without you

i was downtown late one evening there were guitars ringing in our hands and from our voices there came the music to feed a dry and desperate land i was singing on red clay halo for a beauty i had just met though there beside me there stood the angel i was trying to forget and all those rich folk there on the sidewalk who passed by instead of hear it was a black man in ragged clothing who sat down to lend an ear he spoke no words of admiration but with a smile upon his face from his old cup he drew forth a penny and laid it in our guitar case i know that bluegrass was not his music i doubt that banjos gave him thrills but as he left to folsom prison he left a quarter in with the bills i know i'll never know his story i doubt i'll never even know his name but of all those with whom we shared the broadway it was he who made me glad i came and like the widow there in the temple who gave everything she had to give a humble stranger an unassuming person shows what it means to truly live

come all you wary children to a tale that isn't true of a hero and his brother and a stranger passing through the hero is a villain the stranger is a hiker the brother strikes a friendship with a scary looking biker and the road the road brings clarity the brothers both are broken as the open skies unfold one is seeking knowledge and one is seeking gold the hero's running cocaine for a dude who's quite sadistic while facing family troubles with his brother who's autistic and the road the road brings clarity the hero loves the stranger but his brother's in the way the fellowship is broken as the miles fall away the highway brings the truth out near a tree that's hung with shoes while the biker guards the hero from the thing he shouldn't choose and the road the road brings clarity the hero's sin discovered the stranger leaves that day and the brother is abandoned as the hero goes his way the hero leaves his brother to a grief too great to bear he goes to do his villainy as if he didn't care but the road the road brings clarity the guilty seeks the stranger but she sends him on his way the blind can't heal the naked or at least that's what they say but the brother saved the hero from the things he did that day autistic isn't crippled though a fool might think that way and the road the road brings clarity the biker let the brother save the hero from his fate the hero runs to rescue him but almost comes too late the brothers join together to help bear each others load the stranger comes to see them and they head back on the road and the road the road brings clarity

The Waiting 05:22
amidst a sea of faces sit within the garden under open sky eyes and ears intent i wait to hear your voice and down the road we'd fly and i don't mind the waiting and i don't mind the waiting and i don't mind the waiting if it's not in vain waiting for the morning sun to come and light the day and open petals furled or do you bloom but once a year i wonder if to me you would reveal your world and i don't mind the waiting and i don't mind the waiting and i don't mind the waiting if it's not in vain but now i stand with empty hand to leave the garden so it won't become my tomb setting sail for distant shores chasing after stars to find where flowers bloom and i don't mind the waiting and i don't mind the waiting and i don't mind the waiting if it's not in vain and i don't mind the waiting and i don't mind the waiting and i don't mind the waiting if it's not in vain

i still remember clearly as if they were here today the strangers with the tidings of messiah on the way the long awaited savior born in humble dire straits an infant still unknowing of the trial that awaits i laid aside my pattern and grabbed my shepherds staff and hastened then to follow in that word-marked angels path i found him where they said he was amidst the sheep and cows and before him and his father and his mother i did bow he was born to hold back the night hold back the night set everything aright the son of god is coming to the world hold back the night set heart and soul alight the son of god is coming to the world i longed for him to break the roman yoke from off our back for vengeance to our enemies and wealth to fill our lack the chosen unmolested while the others live in fear the promises would happen now that our messiah's here we looked to find a general but a healer found instead and the yoke that he was lifting was the one inside our head acceptance for the outcast healing for the blind forgiveness for the fallen with no one left behind he was born to hold back the night hold back the night set everything aright the son of god is coming to the world hold back the night set heart and soul alight the son of god is coming to the world and eventually they killed him for speaking truth to power religion and the government both slew him in that hour but the words with which they scourged him came back at them instead their weapons shown as useless when god raised him from the dead but all that it was later than the story i now tell of a child born to lift us from the pit in which we fell and through the dark we struggle bound by forces that we fear the nightfall can be canceled by the savior who is here he was born to hold back the night hold back the night set everything aright the son of god is coming to the world hold back the night set heart and soul alight the son of god is coming to the world the son of god is coming to the world the son of god is coming to the world

about

The second album in the "Songs From Nowhere" project, "Volume 2" goes in a slightly different direction both musically and lyrically. Each song was recorded live (guitar and vocals recorded at the same time) and then other instruments were layered over top of that core track. The presence of keyboard and percussion give "The Only Way to Build is to Tear Down" a different feel.

Immediately following the release of "Volume 1," there was a six month period in which almost nothing was written. These songs, essentially, are about the aftermath of the chaotic life change events that had happened previously. About rebuilding, healing, and redemption- dealing with stuff and moving on.

Another change is the presence of others on the recordings. Zack McCarter supplied a decent chunk of lyrics for the song "The Only Way to Build is to Tear Down," and plays lead guitar on "Breakdown Sunrise."

Two of the songs, tracks 10 and 13, are featured on the soundtrack for the independent film "Killing Cavendish." Because of this, everyone who buys that movie's soundtrack will get this album for free, (message me on Facebook or through website if this is you) and every time someone buys this two dollars will go to the film fund (to fund making the movie).

As a bonus, enclosed with this album are digital files of the artwork for the inserts and back cover, which are handwritten and contain a message about the album, and thank yous to as many people as I could remember.

The music is strong. Thanks for listening!
